Problem Based Learning

Problem Based Learning courses

Problem Based Learning is a pedagogy for developing the skills and capacities of a 21st century learner — problem finding, collaboration, communication and creative problem solving. We blend it with a range of technologies to empower students to solve complex, real-world challenges.

Problem Based Learning

Teachers learn the theory and principles of PBL, with a particular focus on developing higher-order cognitive capacities such as convergent and divergent thinking. Participants actively apply these principles, working collaboratively to solve complex, meaningful problems.

PBL with Minecraft

Teachers learn PBL principles by working through a complex, real-world problem, spending much of the day immersed in Minecraft and learning how to use it as part of a problem-based curriculum.

Immersive Coding

Teachers focus on one technology, the MicroBit, to learn block coding as a gateway to developing coding skills for use with other technologies — leaving with the knowledge, skills and practical activities to deliver coding classes or clubs.

In Minecraft

Coding with Minecraft

For those with basic Minecraft skills — a unique medium for introducing JavaScript using Scratch, Tynker or MakeCode within Minecraft, a naturally motivating and familiar context for a new language skill.

Progressive Coding Journey

Teachers move through our coding Minecraft world, developing their own coding skills to deliver Minecraft coding lessons or clubs at school — comes with a legacy package of 50+ Minecraft coding lessons.

Block coding basics

Coding Foundations

A grounding in block code programming theory, introducing teachers to freely available tools including Scratch, Tynker and Makecode, and how to use them to help students produce simple games, animations and interactive stories.

Immersive 3D Thinking

A beginner-and-intermediate course taking parents and teachers on a journey that taps creative potential, equipping them to turn ideas, sketches and designs into real-world 3D digital creations — then transformed for Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality and 3D printing.

Full day · Ages 8–14

Junior Immersive 3D Thinking

Encourages visualisation and spatial thinking — foundation skills for STEM. Learners bring 2D sketches to life as 3D objects in Minecraft, then transform their creations for Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality and 3D printing. Also offered as part of our Junior Summer Schools.
